Story of My Life

So I totally wanted to participate in the Blog Every Day in May challenge and clearly I failed Day 1. I have good reason, though. I had a bad day yesterday in the way that when you're pregnant and hormonal, a small chain of events that aren't going as planned can turn into an avalanche of problems that you don't know how to figure out without yelling and crying. Well, I didn't yell, but I wanted to. More about that later. Anyways, when I saw this challenge, I instantly knew I wanted to participate since I'm having a hard time thinking about anything other than baby. Can you blame me? I probably won't be posting every day but I think it's a fun thing to do. I still want to be able to document the milestones in my pregnancy and mundane things in my life with my husband, without having to come up with something else. Brain cells are lacking these days, too. I'm squishing the first two posts together because I think they're both fun and I don't want to miss out on anything fun going on in blog land. Can't do that!

So without further ado, or rambling, here is my story in 250 words or less.

I was born on November 12, 1985, to parents who are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this year. I am the oldest of four children, two boys and two girls, and I have a ‘twin cousin’ who is one of my bff’s. I grew up in a small city ten minutes north of Boston, where I lived until I was in college. I currently teach fifth grade in that same city. I come from a family that is loud and a bit crazy, with the thickest Boston accents you've ever heard. One of my favorite titles is Auntie. I absolutely treasure my college years with my roommates turned sisters turned bridesmaids who are turning into Aunties this year. I met my husband in college when we took Psychology together freshman year. It was at 8am and I hardly ever went on Fridays and when I did, I was usually still wearing my makeup from the night before. Jeff went to every class and thought I was a hot mess. I got a 4.0 and he got a 1.5. We started dating senior year of college, got engaged in December of 2009, bought a house in June of 2010, and got married on April 28, 2012. We got a puppy, Rocky, in June of 2012, much to the dismay of his almost 14 year old cat sister, my beloved Princess. We found out in January that we will become parents this September. Every day I get to do what I am passionate about, share my life with a man I love deeply, and with friends and family who are my rock and foundation. It’s a blessed life and my story is only beginning!

As for Day 2.. something I am good at... I truly believe that I am a good teacher. I love my kiddos with all my heart, even when they're driving me crazy. I always call them my kids and have been known to turn into a mama bear when someone overlooks one of their skills or needs. My degree in education was only a stepping stone to becoming a good teacher. I love watching "the light bulb go on" so to speak and I am just as proud, if not more, of their accomplishments as they are. I teach in the city and it is my passion. I love city kids and the rough around the edges attitude that they bring with them. Many of my kids have sad stories and tough upbringings but I love them even more for that. It brings out an added dimension that many times makes them work harder and more appreciative of their education and experiences. One of my greatest joys is when my former students, now in high school, visit me to share news of making the honor roll, or Varsity sports teams, or just to say hi. I love sharing my love for education with them and helping them understand that education is their key to a better life. Even though the profession is undermined constantly and it gets harder every day, I can't imagine ever doing anything else.
